Public Diplomacy and Transnational Religious Organizations; The Study of Rabata al-Alam al-Islami (1692-2000)

Abstract

This is an interdisciplinary study that deals with the role of religion and elevated status of subjective factors in international relations, and the involvement of religious players in the international events in the framework of international communication field of studies. To do this it has probed into a portion of Saudi Arabia's public diplomacy that has been performed by Rabeta al-Alam al-Eslami (Muslim World League), an international organization, since its foundation from 1962. In a cultural- communicative approach, the public diplomacy model used by this organization considers the cultural exigencies of Saudi Arabian monarchy and with the purpose of establishing coordination in producing and promoting norms based on national identity and interests in international political arena, by taking objective and subjective sources into account and utilizing a combination of traditional international communication and information society, leading to the production of convincing religious power for the country.
