Abstract

This article discusses actresses' representation on movie posters in the years 1368- 1392. To do this, 88 posters belonging to a 24 year period were quantitatively analyzed and 9 variables were considered, namely the proportion of poster size to women's pictures, the overall view, location of women's pictures throughout the layers, make up, covering, hijab, proportion of actresses' number to the whole, women's personality status in relation to all the characters, and movie genre. The samples were then categorized in 6 periods.
By applying Hall's discourse approach, this study is generally an emphasis on the significance of adapting representations with thoughts and ideologies. The results show that the cinema values and policies used in the 70s and 80s concerning covering, hijab and make- up were not represented and they were treated passively on the part of the governmental structure in relation to cinema requirements.
